Design an entire book from cover to cover – literally.
The aim of this project was to take written content and turn it into something visual and engaging, while making the publication feel considered from the front cover through to the final page.

I wanted to explore how readability, hierarchy, legibility and spacing could influence the way someone moves through and experiences a book. I focused on creating clear relationships between the different types of content, using typography and layout to guide the reader through the book. The goal was to create a book that was not only visually interesting, but also easy and enjoyable to read.

I played around with different ways to bring variety into the book while still making sure everything felt like it belonged together. For the pull-out quotes, I experimented with their weight, size and colour to see how they could stand out from the main body of text and create more visual interest on the page.

For each section, I created a different cover page that reflected its subject matter. I experimented with the illustrations, colours and titles, making sure the title treatment worked with the illustration and matched the theme of each section. This allowed each section to have its own look and feel, while the overall design still felt connected.

For the reading pages, I focused on how the text, pull-out quotes and spacing worked together. I experimented with the amount of space around the quotes, the colour and weight of the text, and how they were positioned within the text to create different levels of emphasis, while keeping the pages comfortable and easy to read.
